Caribbean Businesses have been slow in catching the GREEN WAVE and getting onboard the sustainable development agenda for 2030. The Tourism Sector in particular has the largest environmental footprint and Corporate Social Responsibility to protect the environment in which they operate.
Environmental Management should remain the purview of Government and Development Agencies alone. There are several areas in which a Business and Environment Council can lead and promote sustainable development of the region:
1. Waste Management
2. Renewable Energy
3. Green Building and Designing with nature
4. Employee Health and Safety
5. Tradable Permits and Licenses for use of Ecosystem Goods and Services
6. Research & Innovation
7. Green Investing & Philanthropy
GREAT RESET
The Pause due to COVID-19 disruption in global supply chains, travel, economic activity and social distancing, provides an ideal opportunity for the business community to re-imagine sustainable future for the Caribbean
Our 2030 vision for the Caribbean is to witness our ancestral healing traditions incorporated into the mainstream for sustainable livelihoods and wellbeing of rural communities and indigenous peoples.
This will be achieved by focusing on the following areas of action:
INSTITUTIONAL & LEGAL FRAMEWORK
AREAS FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION
Despite mounting scientific evidence the natural resouces of the region are under threat from human development activities, Caribbean governments and industry have been fettering discretion and failing to enforce and monitor implementation of strategies and programs of action for environmental management. THE TIME FOR ACTION IS NOW!
There are many communities suffering in silence. CISIL will fund environmental advocacy and litigation both at the national and regional levels.
