Bamboo is found growing naturally throughout Grenada and is considered an invasive species. Jessamine Eden Wellness Farms has over five acres of naturally growing bamboo which will be utilized as a sustainable resource. Having assessed the resource, we will be able to partner with Eden Farm Ltd to develop a range of products which can be sold in local, regional and international markets.
Research and community surveys will be conducted to determine the best strategy for recycling paper, bottles and plastic containers. At the port of entry the Government charges an environmental levy on non-biodegradable beverage containers. The levy is intended to be refundable but in practice this does not happen since there are no recycling initiatives underway.
Over fifty percent of the solid waste generated in the region is bio-degradable. Starting with the biowaste generated at Eden Farms, we will develop micro systems that can be scaled to produce compost for use in farming. This will address the importation of compost and potting soils into our islands.
